2003 Award Honoree

Revaé Green
Tavares High School
NFHS Award Recipient

For Revaé Green of Tavares High School, sportsmanship is all about attitude. The three-sport athlete believes that "a good attitude is essential. It is very important to bring good sportsmanship into everything you do. I believe that displaying good sportsmanship means being a team player, being respectful, fair, humble, and considerate. All of these qualities are important in life."

Green's positive attitude has served her well over her high school career. She was selected as captain of her basketball, volleyball, and track & field teams in both her junior and senior years, and earned a total of 11 varsity letters in all. She was the Bulldogs' Most Valuable Athlete in track & field her junior year, and set school records in the 4x400-meter relay, 300-meter hurdles and high jump. Green also won the district and regional titles in the high jump in 2002. She was named the Most Outstanding Player on the basketball team as a senior, and received the Coach's Award in volleyball as a sophomore.

Community efforts also highlight Green's resume. "I am very proud of the community service hours I have put in throughout my high school years," she said. "I have more than 200 hours of service in areas like Adopt-A-Road, tutoring and nursing home visits." Green volunteered her time with Special Olympics and United Way as well. She was a member of the UCF-McKnight Achievers Society, a cultural organization of minority students "who aim high to promote education and leadership," serving as president her senior year.

Her positive outlook made her a natural leader at Tavares. Green served in a variety of leadership roles, including National Honor Society secretary, sophomore class president, and senior class and SGA secretary. She was honored in Who's Who Among American High School Students and the National Honor Roll, and was selected as a National Ventures Scholar.

Green graduated third in her class of 220 students. She plans to attend the University of Florida in Gainesville to study biology and hopes to become a pediatric surgeon.

Green is the daughter of Reginald and Jannette Green of Tavares.
