Stay in Bounds
Formed as a pilot project for CTSA, the mission of the Indianapolis
Stay in Bounds project is to build good character, and foster responsible
behavior and cooperation among the community's youth. Local scholastic,
community and faith-based youth development organizations are collaborating
with collegiate, Olympic and professional organizations to attain
these goals by using participation in sports as a vehicle.
Through
its broad and unique community composition, Stay in Bounds provides
encouragement and support of participation in sport as a positive,
character-building activity. The project creates a network of organizations
that emphasize the following RICHER values within the community:
Respect - demonstrating respect for themselves and others,
both in class and at play; Integrity - conducting themselves
with honesty and integrity; Caring - demonstrating caring
for teammates and opponents; Harmony - appreciating the value
of other cultures and differences in points of view; Excellence
- striving for excellence; and Responsibility - taking responsibility
for their own actions.
The education-based program benefits students by providing materials
and hands-on experience that explain and support sportsmanlike values
on and off the playing field. Programs are available for third through
eighth grade. Stay in Bounds also has a cross-age mentoring program
for high school students.
